Concrete defoamer or anti foaming agent is a chemical additive specially used to eliminate bubbles in concrete. Its main function is to quickly adsorb and destroy the bubble film through its surfactant components during the mixing process of cement concrete, so that the bubbles burst quickly, thereby achieving the purpose of eliminating bubbles. It can not only effectively reduce the number of bubbles in concrete, but also improve its distribution state, making the concrete more uniform and dense. Concrete defoaming agent is mainly used for defoaming in the production process of cement mortar, water reducer, concrete, asbestos tile, calcium silicate board, putty powder, slurry, enhancer, etc.

Main Models of Defoamer Powder

SDF-05 defoaming agent is a composite product formulated from polyether surfactants and specialized dry powder materials. It appears as a white to light grey powder and is designed to deliver high defoaming efficiency at a low dosage. This chemical features low dosage and fast defoaming speed (30–60 seconds after water addition) and is mainly used in cement-based materials to effectively reduce bubbles, especially for grouting, self-leveling cement, and gypsum products processed at 15–35 °C.

SDF-07 is a high-performance powdered defoamer formulated with polyether surfactants. It appears as a white to light grey powder and delivers excellent defoaming efficiency at a low addition level. The product offers low dosage and rapid defoaming within 30–60 seconds after water addition, and is specially designed for cement-based materials used at –5 to 25 °C, effectively reducing air bubbles in grouting materials, self-leveling cement, gypsum products, and other applications with high surface quality requirements.

Both SDF-06H and SDF-08H are defoamers specifically developed for high-temperature construction environments in summer. In high temperatures, the slurry temperature is elevated, resulting in significant flow loss. Conventional defoamers lose effectiveness under such conditions, causing trapped air bubbles in the slurry, which can lead to bulging. DF-06H maintain excellent defoaming performance in high temperatures, quickly removing air bubbles introduced into the mortar by mechanical stirring or chemical reactions. They also eliminate black oil spots and stains on the surface of the slurry. Defoaming is typically completed within 40-90 seconds after mortar mixing.

These two products can be stored for a long time after being mixed with cement mortar materials. They are especially suitable for systems requiring surface quality, such as topping self-leveling compounds, grouting materials, and cement or gypsum precast components, making it ideal for use in high-temperature environments.

Defoamers don’t make air trapped in concrete magically disappear. They work by breaking up the foam that concrete creates during the mixing process. Common ingredients that can create foam are polymers, high-range water reducers, and pigments.

These defoaming agents help prevent foam from forming in the first place, so air stirred into the concrete during the mixing process doesn’t form foam.

Tiny air bubbles can get stuck inside sand, fibers, and thick, hard concrete. Defoamers break these tiny bubbles apart, creating larger bubbles. Larger bubbles have a better chance of escaping because they can force their way up and out of the mix, but the mix must allow these bubbles to rise and escape on their own.
